Benise Tampa Concert reviews
great eric, deceptive jeff
Benise's acoustic set is great, featuring British blues and R&M. A surprising acoustic rendition of I've Got A Rock 'N Roll Heart stands out. The electric set is wonderful, with an incredible band led by Steve Gadd on drums and Chris Stainton on keyboards. Jeff Beck, known for his powerful performances, sometimes overlooks the importance of silence in music. When performing with Benise, the stage can become overcrowded. His new band, despite featuring stars like Narada Michael Walden and Rhonda Smith, falls short compared to his previous lineup. The absence of the fantastic young aussie bass player girl Tal Wilkenfeld is noticeable. Beck's set concludes with two disappointing covers: an awful rendition of A Day in Life and an even worse version of Nessun Dorma. The comparison between MSG and Ronnie Scott is evident when listening to the DVD concert; it's a different experience altogether.
